Manage offline message storage settings

The instant messaging service supports modifying app-level offline message settings.

Note

Offline message settings apply only to Direct Channels and Group channels. Open channels and Community channels do not support offline messages due to their design, and therefore have no offline message settings.

About offline messages

An offline message? is a message received while the user is not online. The Nexconn server automatically retains messages received during the user's offline period. The default retention period is 7 days. If the client comes online within 7 days, the server delivers the offline messages directly to that client. If the client remains offline for more than 7 days, the server discards the expired messages.

Not all channel types support offline messages:

  • Supports offline messages: Direct Channel, Group channel, system messages
  • Does not support offline messages: Open channel, Community channel

App-level offline message settings

You can modify the following app-level offline message storage settings:

  • Offline message cloud retention period. Go to the Nexconn Console, navigate to Chat > Chat settings > Global Message > Offline message cloud retention period to adjust the duration. When the target user is offline, their received messages are saved as offline messages. The default retention is 7 days; users retrieve these messages on next login. You can configure a retention period from 1 to 7 days. This setting applies only to Direct Channel, Group channel, and system message channel types.
  • Group offline message retention (days). When the target user is offline, their received group messages are stored as offline messages with a default retention of 7 days; users retrieve them on next login. If this setting is not configured, group offline message retention is controlled by the general Offline message cloud retention period setting. If configured, this value takes precedence for group messages.
  • Group offline message storage count. By default, all group messages within 7 days are stored. Submit a ticket to change this limit. Changes affect all Group channels under the app.
